National Police Guarantee Security of Foreign Citizens in Indonesia
The National Police are prepared to provide necessary security for all foreign citizens in the run-up to the presidential and vice presidential election, to be held on July 5.
National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Paiman made this statement during a press conference held at the National Police headquarters (HQ), Jakarta, on Monday (31/05).
The National Police have imposed a high alert status from May 30, until the upcoming presidential election.
The number of police officers deployed for election security totals 174,495, one third of police personnel.
Despite the high alert status, Paiman said, police intelligence officers are yet to see any bad signs in the run-up to the presidential election campaigns.
The National Police made this guarantee in response to concerns raised by several foreign countries regarding the safety of their citizens in Indonesia.
Canada, for example, has issued a travel warning as part of its concern over the situation in Indonesia in the run-up to the election.
Paiman said that each country had the right to issue such warnings. (TEMPO Interactive)
